1. Nas - Nas is like...I could just leave it at that lol but...Nas is like the combination of everything I like in an artist...he never relied to heavily on one style...He always kept it interesting and controversial and one of the few rappers that makes me think about the issues of the world. His pop shit is never too pop, his thug shit makes a point of not glamorizing as much as telling you the ups and downs and his political/social shit is no holds barred. 2. Rakim - Probably the architect of lyrical hip hop. He was waaaaay advanced for his time and had everybody else playing catch up. His influence on the great rappers of today (whether directly or indirectly) deserves a spot near the top. He was only beaten by Nas in my book because Nas is like the new and improved model of Rakim. Still arguably the greatest ever. 3. Jay-Z - An amazingly balanced rapper. He appeals to large audiences because he knows how to mix the right amounts of intelligence and accessibility. Maybe the greatest overall catalogue of any rapper to date? I'd say so. Very witty style and countless rappers have copied his style and tried to make it their own...you know who I'm talking about. Reasonable Doubt put him on the map but I think it was the Blueprint that solidified him as one of the greatest of all time. 4. B.I.G. - extremely detailed lyrics, he helped revolutionize the mafioso style right after Rae and them introduced it. The two officials albums we were left with are two of the most solid ever in this genre. I love BIG for the reason some people don't...He's hardcore as hell. Sometimes his stuff can be to tough to swallow but if you're up for it you'll be amazed at his level of skill 5. GZA - The sharpest emcee ever. If this was based on lyrics alone, it's possible GZA would be at the top. He never ever takes the easy route and his rhymes are some of the the most meticulously crafted ever 6. Andre 3000 - Andre 3000 is part of a duo and he's a very eclectic character. Those two things cause his name to be left out of a lot of BEST RAPPER LISTS...But damn he deserves it. He's an awesome songwriter and he never bores on the mic. I enjoy him so much that a solo rap album could move him up even higher. 7. Scarface - King of Southern Hip Hop. He epitomizes what hip hop down here should sound like. He reminds me a lot of Biggie actually or vice versa because they always tell these great detailed stories about crime. Like it's never "yo I shot him wit mah gunzzz" He goes through all these scenarios and makes you feel like you were there. 8. Common - Common is just that dude. He stays going through phases, he's never happy with one style. One minute he's 'Chicago's Nas' dropping rugged hip hop, then it's Neo-Soul mixed with hip hop with songs about love (still maintaining his beloved anti fake MC songs) and the next he's making crazy space shit. Common is like a spoken word poet almost (like #9) who just decided that rapping was more his thing...SMOOTH 9. Talib Kweli - Kweli is just that fck dude. He has never disappointed me either his overall music or his lyrics. He may lack a certified classic (like #10) but his ability and consistency make him worthy of a spot (just like #10). He always has something fresh to say and it's always underlined with expertly written lyrics and punchlines. Some complain about his flow but I like it...It spices up his verses. 10. EDIT: torn between Ghostface and Mos Def Real quick like...that's my favorite rappers...Pac isn't on there simply because I don't relate to him like that...he's an honorable mention though: Eminem - sorry, just not one of my favorites...While I think he's HIGHLY HIGHLY skilled, I also think he's limited in concepts and subjects. tons and tons of honorable mentions Last Edit: Aug17 2009 @ 05:51am by kollage |

WHERE THE HELL IS 2PAC? ?1.2pac -Has released more music than almost any other artist in ANY genre. Not to mention it is all flawless. Every album he has released is amazing and he had the ability to release a song like "dear mama" and then "hit em up" the influence he's had on music in general and in society speaks for itself. Lyrically he was a poet and not once rapped a bar or a verse without undeniable passion. I believe he is not only the best rapper ever, but arguably the best ever musician. 2. Eminem 3. Jay-Z 4. Nas 5. Lupe Fiasco 6. Kanye West 7. Common 8. Talib Kweli 9. Biggie 10. Slug |

1. Eminem 2. Pac 3. Redman 4. Jay-Z 5. B.I.G 6. 3000 7. Kanye (not as good lyrically, but makes better music than almost all of them IMO) 8. Rakim 9. Jadakiss 10. Nas **will finish this later** Last Edit: Aug 7 2009 @ 08:10am by GMC..Relapsed |

good good list kollage. but why not Quality as a Talib Kweli certified classic? oh and how could you justify andre 3000 being ahead of GZA or B.I.G.? do you really think a solo album by 3k could be better than liquid swords? huh, liquidswords1988?
