MGMT - Congratulations
|
Release Date: 2009 Info "Goldwasser and his cohort Andrew VanWyngarden are in Malibu working with a five piece band to write songs for a new MGMT album. He reported that the writing started a few weeks back, in the woods outside of New York. "It was a few hours outside of New York City, in the Catskills. Nice rural scenery and it was like, in the middle of winter. Kind of cold and dreary compared to California. That was part of our idea that we were going to be locking ourselves up in the middle of winter, all cold and depressed. And then move somewhere where we’ll be out on the beach and enjoying ourselves in the sunny weather, try to get some different influences. Some of the songs are definitely a little more introspective and then there’s definitely some more surfy, beachy stuff going on." He promised we’ll hear plenty of the new material in the band’s set at Splendour this year. "We’re really excited about the new stuff we’ve been coming up with. I think it’s a little different. It’s going more in a rock direction I think than some of the stuff on the album. We’re going to be playing a ton of new stuff definitely." http://www.abc.net.au/triplej/musicnews/s2549361.htm |

| Hopefully it's not as frustratingly over-produced as their last record. |
|
Awesome-- I had no idea they were working on new material, so this is a pleasant surprise for me. Oracular Spectacular was 4th on my top-10 albums of 2008 list (which was JUST placed on Clash Magazine's best albums from 2004-2009 list.)

Damn Asian, I wanted to go to that. I didn't, because I happened to catch Beck and MGMT at the San Diego street scene festival that was during that same week. I'm so excited for this. I really like Oracular Spectacular, but felt they could do more. It was a great debut tho, so I'm excited to see the follow up. If not just so i can see them live again. |

Here is the other 2 new tracks they performed this one's called "Dan Tracey" and the second one is either called "It's Working" or "Voices Carry" and also found lyrics for "Congratulations" they might not be perfect Everyone It's not a paid vacation Your sons and daughters Are sitting? setting? fishes down at the station The tide may seem to swell when all is well But they still....[muffled-ish] Out with the weapons It's not a blaze of glory You look down from the temples Pull it together? and make it a story Tears on marble something something It was always lost It was never heard I've been sold to make me poise But you don't know how the money's spent To break my stays and draw my lines So I can't tell what's really there And all I need's a great big congratulations We'll keep the trail warm Pay attention for me As strange as it seems, I'd rather dissolve Than have you ignore me If God made the looming plans go I tried my best to ignore that (bad land? muffled bit) The difference is clear You throw in an apology Rest in the new year (?) Dusky dawns always been ...something… It started the simple stop of (?) All the ways they sought to tame me It turned your luck into a mistress It kept on coming back a smile You seen my face at half past guilt And lay down the quilts upon the lawn Spread my arms - A circle of congratulations Last Edit: Jun13 2009 @ 05:59pm by Guesswhosback |
