808s & Heartbreak off to a strong start

808s & Heartbreak

Kanye West has a lot to be thankful for this Thanksgiving. His fourth album 808s & Heartbreak is on pace to sell between 450-500,000 copies based on first-day estimates. That would make this Kanye’s third biggest debut of his career (following Graduation and Late Registration) and his third No. 1 album.

nothing close to a million (what i was hoping for) but him getting #1 and beating guns n roses is fucking great for me. fuck selling a milli. lol. congratulations kanye!

  2. Sheldon [Nov25] :

    wow thats shit

  3. Timmy Byrd [Nov25] :

Fedarollies caught me while im crossin the bridge (click-click) take a portrait is............. Million not in cards for kanye HEY still hope for jayz........
Mondays sells were probably low because the album came out on a monday!!!!!!! Tuesday has to be better because albums usually debut on tuesdays, Like KAN-YE previous three!!! FUCK BEYONCE!!!!!! Dont buy her shit she sucks

  4. ELGIN-the rtist- [Nov26] :

CLASSIC ALBUM KANYE GOLD IN A WEEK IS SUPER TIGHT

  5. yo [Nov26] :

well of course he's not going to sell a mil wit this, honestly it didn't even feel like a REAL kanye release. Ill wait to June 09, now that WILL SELL A MIL!

  6. G0ddard [Nov26] :

I knew he was gonna sell about that much. Lol at people who thought he was gonna sell a million. The marketin rivalry with 50cent was responseable for alot of sales last year with grad, as well 2out of3 popular single releases. So it was inevitable he was not gonna sell as much with his alot less supported movement with singing on autotune. Dam that took me nearly i whole bus journey to write on my phone.

  7. in the news, in the nudes [Nov26] :

possibilities reasons because of all this:

    1. leak
    2. don't have a massive competitor like 50 cent
    3. people don't know what stories kanye's trying to pursue in
    4. auto - tuning and rapping let down is letting down his rapping fan
    5. people got no soul and heartless

but still, i don't care, ima new fan

  8. Eazy [Nov26] :

ppl he said ye sold between 450,000-500,000 in one day

  9. mister123 [Nov26] :

ithink he is going to sell 300000 more on black friday so maybe be like late registration be like 8600000 thats still great

  10. sideshowRaheem [Nov26] :

500,000 is nothing to sneeze at Beyonce had a #1 single and only sold 550,000. It's almost imposable to sell close to a milli 3x in a row no in hip-hop has done that not 50 Cent, not Eminem, no one in the past 10 years since the internet.

  11. II D2 II [Nov26] :

    @sideshowRaheem
cough Lil Wayne - Tha Carter III

  12. sideshowRaheem [Nov26] :

    @II D2 II

No what I'm saying is no artist can keep selling a million in the first week 2-3 albums in a row every artist that's comes close to a million in a week more than once since the internet sales have gone down by the 3rd album. It happened to 50 Cent, Eminem ect 500,000 is still enough to make him the hottest selling artist on Def Jam. Lil Wayne may have another million first week in him but he wont be able to keep it up.

  13. SNJ [Nov26] :

Ya'll act like it's easy to sell half a mil in one week. That only happens for like 1-2% of all the artists out there. Most artists can even get gold status. Mr. West, through the quality of his music and whatnot, has been able to consistently reach high sales - higher than most in the industry. For example, did any of ya'll know that Graduation was the only rap album from '07 to go double-platinum? I believe that 808s will at least reach platinum status before the year is over and that, in my opinion, is a very respectable achievement indeed.

  14. noelle [Nov26] :

    YAY

  15. phresh aka i wanna be elvis [Nov26] :

congrats to my favorite artist of all time and pastelle is gonna be 2 tuff u see that jacket smh im copping

  16. PACO [Nov26] :

thats wat im talkin bout ye this is best yet classic since graduation

  17. PACO [Nov26] :

hes kill wayne softly naw im playin he went hard on dat nigga no homo

  18. sam [Nov27] :

i know kanye is going to sell a million on his next album

  19. Jason [Nov27] :

I feel really bad for anyone who thinks going 450,000-500,000 in the FIRST week is shit.......that is amazing and I am VERY surprised Kanye even got that

i bet Kanye is REALLY happy about that..........he knew it wasn't gonna sell as much as Graduation or Late Registration....there was no HUGE single (even tho Love Lockdown) was fairly popular, he had 50 Cent's rivalry last time

  20. bball13 [Nov27] :

Dope album. Ye should be proud.

  21. Mike [Nov27] :

What would happen if Kanye spent longer on producing an album like a year- would it be amazing and get him that elvis like status he talked about... some would think 3 weeks is a little rushed!!

  22. Jenna Kuntz [Nov29] :

Hey people have you heard any new songs from his next rap album? If you did can you tell me what they're called, cuz I'm a big kanYe West fan! Or did any come out even?

  23. Ezikiel Muhigay [Nov29] :

  33. DeeWA2008 [Dec01] :

Personally, I think 808 will do GREAT! Like the one poster noted, it had a STRANGE release date/day (Monday, I guess) so if they're going off 1st day sales, then the projection will definately be OFF. Plus, as another poster mentioned, there were probably a ton sold on "Black Friday."

I, too, was hoping for a mil+, but as this is a new style for Ye, it may bring in a bit less than his "rap" albums.

Me, I love the broadening of his musical talents. Like Madonna and other before him, it takes GUTS to break your initial mold. BUT do you think we'd still be talking about Ms. M if she was still running around like she was in Like A Virgin? Heck NO! As an "ARTIST" grows, they product changes with them. Especially if they're writing their own stuff.

When I turned on the VMA's I had my mouth hangin' open, and my heart was beating REAL hard. LOVE LOCKDOWN's premiere was ABSOLUELY BREATHTAKING performance, artistically, that is. Plus, if you're already a fan, like me, you can feel your "friend's" pain and you love it all the more.

OK, my piece of advice: BUY IT! BUY IT! BUY IT! and enjoy Ye's 808 & Heartbreak as much as I am....

  34. lettie [Dec01] :

All i have to say is "DONE IT THIS TIME MR WEST" best album to date, love lockdown live is amazing that beat in your chest!!! waaaaw!!! Imagine the new tracks too, ohohohohohohoh

Anyone so is not open minded enough for the album needs to go on a hole new musical search, open up, let new things in!

  35. yo [Dec01] :

If you think that 808's is his BEST album then you must of never heard College Dropout or Late Registration.

  36. BAITA [Dec02] :

KAnye!!!!!! Thanks For Being Different And Not Being Like These Other Guys Talkin Bout Makin It Rain,Messin Wit Hoes,.......Ext.
    "THANKS FOR MAKIN REAL MUSIC"

  37. Alanna [Dec03] :

i dont even like RnB n hip hop n that stuff..
but this album is brillaint! i put it on my ipod i cnt stop listerning to it

    i really like it (:

  38. niknik08 [Dec03] :

This album is sooo different from anything out right know....eventhough he jacked t-pain with the vocorder. This cd cranks from front to back. Love it, Love it, Love it.......

  39. joshua [Dec04] :

the c.d. is great i love it don't get me wrong, but i like it better when he raps. it more of just when he raps it come deep u know his songs on 808 are deep and sick but when he raps its incredible

  40. joshua [Dec04] :

i also agree with baita and i dont know if baitas black or not but thats why black people get stereotyped, music isn't always about making it rain or doing girls

  41. Lauren [Dec06] :

Surpirse! Kanye always brings it and I did'nt think people would except the fact he's doing something different.I LOVE it i memorized all of the words of every song after having it for less then a week.
